CIEM Ranked as a Top Think Tank in Asia

For many years, the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) at the Department of Economics has been working in close collaboration with the Central Institute for Economic Management, within the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) of Vietnam. This collaboration is Danida-supported. DERG staff, led by Professor Finn Tarp, in conjunction with CIEM researchers, have been involved in numerous research initiatives focusing on a wide range of issues such as rural land reform, SME development, impact of WTO accession, and Social Accounting Matrices development. Last week, CIEM was named among the top 40 Asian think tanks in 2009 by a US agency. The Global Go-To Think Tank rankings are based on a worldwide survey of over 300 scholars, policymakers, and other experts. The CIEM was also nominated among 392 leading think tanks in the world out of 6,300 the study covered. The criteria include academic reputation, success in generating innovative policy ideas, and access to elites in the areas of policymaking, media, and academia. The CIEM, regarded by many as the leading economic think tank in Vietnam makes recommendations on economic laws and regulations, policies, planning and management mechanisms, and business environment in Vietnam.  Finn Tarp says: DERG is proud of the collaboration with CIEM and look forward to continuing it in the future.
