Fisheries Project

This project focuses on the need for a comprehensive and strategic economic analysis of the fisheries sector in Vietnam. This is motivated by the lack of systematic explorations of the sector and the returns of alternative policy options.

The overall objective of the work is to improve the effectiveness of Vietnamese government economic policies and interventions in the fishery sector by improving the quality of economic analysis and to contribute to the development of Vietnamese capability to undertake economic analysis in the sector. A study on the Economic Strategy for the Fishery Sector will be produced under this project and  presented to policy makers to provide the basis for more informed choices in selecting and designing effective government interventions.

DERG, in collaboration with the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) in the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) of Vietnam, is providing a series of analytical and technical advisory services geared towards the provision and analysis of fisheries sector data, and the preparation of a final comprehensive report. This will be disseminated broadly to Vietnamese policy makers at sector as well as central government levels.
