Understanding the Youth Mental Health Crisis
On the occasion of being awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Copenhagen, Janet Currie, David Swensen Professor of Economics at Yale University, will give a public lecture on “Understanding the Youth Mental Health Crisis.”
Janet Currie is one of the world’s leading health economists and a pioneer in the economics of children. Her research has transformed our understanding of the links between children’s health, their social and economic circumstances, and their outcomes later in life.
Currie’s research has shown how poverty, environmental exposures, and access to health care and social programs affect children’s health and development, and how physical and mental health in childhood in turn influence educational attainment and later socioeconomic outcomes. Her work also examines inequalities in access to health care, the effectiveness of public programs for children and families, and the role of health care providers in shaping treatment and health outcomes.
In this public lecture, Currie will address one of the most pressing issues facing children and families today: the youth mental health crisis.
