CEBI member Amalie Sofie Jensen appointed to a government expert group on models for a new car taxation system in Denmark

The expert group is set to investigate desirable ways to redesign the car taxation system going forward to support the continued uptake of electric vehicles in Denmark.

In evaluating relevant models for a new car taxation system, the expert group must consider government ambitions related to Denmark’s green transition, infrastructure mobility, redistributive consequences, social costs and benefits, as well as the goal to maintain a stable future government revenue from car taxation. This includes, for instance, considering how the purchase of cars and the use of cars should be taxed to ensure that low-income families can still afford to own a car, considering how existing and future car owners are affected in the transition from an old to a new tax system, and considering the administrative burdens on government and firms involved in different alternative taxation models.

The expert group consists of four members in total. In addition to Amalie Sofie Jensen, the members are head of the expert group, Michael Svarer (AU), Peter Birch Sørensen (KU), and Ninette Pilegaard (DTU). The group will hand in their report in the fall of 2026.
