The recently launched process aims to identify solutions that can improve animal welfare while ensuring a strong and sustainable pig industry. Before the negotiations begin, an expert group will help establish a stronger evidence base for the parties' work.

The expert group consists of:

The expert group consists of Professor Claus Thustrup Kreiner of the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen, who will chair the group; Professor Lene Juul Pedersen of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University; and Martin Ulrik Jensen, Director General of Statistics Denmark.

Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare Christian Rabjerg Madsen said:

– The four-party negotiations on pig production are intended to help shape the pig industry of the future, and there is no doubt that this is a major and complex task. It is therefore important that we have a solid professional foundation on which to build. I am convinced that the expert panel can contribute to this. I look forward to following the experts' work while also travelling around the country to gather inspiration and learn about experiences that can help prepare the four-party initiative for the task ahead.

The four-party initiative will begin their work in the new year and will have six months to reach common solutions. At the start of the process, the expert group will deliver a discussion proposal outlining the challenges and possible policy tools. It will also examine the economic, employment and animal welfare impacts of different initiatives.
