Microeconometrics term report
The term paper shall demonstrate that you can carry out an
empirical investigation with special emphasis on econometric issues. You have to
- formulate an economic question (for example inspired by
one or two papers)
- find data that can be used to answer the question (links
to different data sets can be found on the course homepage)
- estimate and test hypotheses using methods discussed in
the course.
- investigate properties of the estimators and tests using
Monte Carlo techniques
If the question has been investigated in a paper, then you
need to extend the analysis to obtain a high mark. For example you will need to provide a useful, correct and
significant extension to the paper. This could include, for example,
specification tests that were not used by the authors, better econometric
techniques, a re-specification of the model that changes one of the main
conclusions or collecting supplementary or alternative data.
Formalities
- The final report will be a maximum length of eight pages (less than
30000 keystrokes), excluding tables, figures and
references. Appendices are permitted for peripheral technical material. The
report must be written in either Danish or English.
- A disc with the Gauss programs (with comments in the programs) should be
included
You are strongly encouraged to work in groups of three but this is not
absolutely required. Working alone is strongly discouraged. Each group will be
randomly assigned to one of the instructors.
Deadlines
- One A4-page describing your question and data must be handed in no later
than Thursday, November 3.
- The report is due at 12.00 on Friday December 16, 2005. Late submissions will
not be accepted.
